This page allows alumni of The City University of New York to advocate for additional funds for CUNY in the New York State budget.

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

As a graduate of The City University of New York, I am writing to ask your support in fully funding CUNY. The University's budget requires full State support and restoration of the $20 million reduction in order to hire more full-time faculty at a faster rate, strengthen programs, expand research opportunities, bolster academic and student support, enhance workforce and economic development and upgrade computer systems and buildings.

I am asking that you allow CUNY to keep a greater percentage of the currently proposed tuition increase. Increasing this percentage from the current figure of 20 percent will allow the University to enhance the student academic experience by hiring more full-time faculty and increasing student support services. If students must pay higher tuition, then it must be for an investment in their education, not to fill a hole in the State's budget.

CUNY alumni are valuable assets to New York State. Ten years after graduation, 80 percent of CUNY alumni continue to reside and work in New York State, enrich the local tax base and fuel the region's economy. They repay the investment made in their education through taxes paid over many years. I strongly believe that providing increased aid to CUNY is an investment in the future of New York.
