Subject: Community College students need your help to restore funds to CUNY community colleges
Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,
As a registered voter and student at a CUNY College, I am writing to ask for restoration of State support in the amount of $285 per FTE for The City University of New York's community colleges. CUNY's community colleges have experienced a surge in enrollment and these cuts will worsen an already crowded campus atmosphere. Class sizes will increase and in many cases, CUNY community colleges may have to turn students away.
Community colleges train the workforce and help fuel the economy. Almost 97 percent of recent CUNY community college graduates reside in New York State contributing to its progress. Now is NOT the time to be cutting community college base aid.
In order to support the CUNY system, we need a predictable and rational tuition policy that will allow students to plan for their educational costs. Students can no longer handle huge increases of hundreds of dollars at one time. We need a policy that is commiserate with the financial needs of the students and independent of the economic climate of New York State.
Please stand up for CUNY's community colleges. Thank you.
