Subject: CUNY alumni think CUNY cuts are wrong

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

As a graduate of CUNY, I am writing to ask your support in fully funding The City University of New York. The University's budget requires full State support and restoration of the $84.4 million that was cut in the Executive Budget. This will allow CUNY to hire more full-time faculty at a faster rate, strengthen programs, expand research opportunities, bolster academic and student support, enhance workforce and economic development, and upgrade computer systems and buildings.

CUNY also needs a rational and predictable tuition policy that avoids large increases at one time. A tuition policy that is tied to the economic circumstances of New York State puts the system in peril and prohibits CUNY from long term planning for faculty and staff, as well as capital areas of the budget.

CUNY alumni are valuable assets to New York State. Ten years after graduation, 80 percent of CUNY alumni continue to reside and work in New York State, enrich the local tax base and fuel the region's economy. They repay the investment made in their education through taxes paid over many years. I strongly believe that providing increased aid to CUNY is an investment in the future of New York.

Thank you for your support.

Sincerely,
