Subject: Please make restorations to CUNY
Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,
As the Legislature moves toward a final budget it is imperative to restore senior college operating funds for The City University of New York. The Senate Resolution recommends acceptance of the proposed Executive Budget cut of $84.4 million and restores community college base aid. The Assembly resolution raises tuition for non-resident students and accepts the Governor's proposed $84.4 million cut to senior college operating aid.
If proposed senior college reductions are implemented it would have a devastating impact on CUNY students, colleges, faculty and staff. Instruction, academic support, libraries, advisement, counseling, student services and child care will all be negatively affected. Course sections will be eliminated which will increase class size and restrict the ability of students being able to graduate. In a time where the economy is struggling and people are flocking back to colleges for retraining and new careers, CUNY is experiencing an unprecedented surge in enrollment that must be addressed. As has been report CUNY is already in the unprecedented position of placing students on waiting lists for the first time in CUNY history. Funding cuts will only deepen the problem.
Thank you for your support of CUNY.
Sincerely,
|
